Check out what I found in my “sketches” folder. Genderbent Ryuko wearing a modified version of Senketsu. What am I doing with my life?

This is from ages ago, maybe November. I might finish this up one day, when I’m feeling particularly nostalgic.

Just been doing some work here and there with “Twinkle Twinkle”: fixed up the art, redid some of the colouring, drew in expressions. Minor update: multiple poses, probably! Wes’s sprite is my guinea pig for trying out new things and I’ve never been this ambitious with sprites, so we’ll see how it turns out. \o/

I’m hoping to get a demo out soon, tentatively for June.

Statistics:

The game contains 689 dialogue blocks, containing 8,771 words and 47,768 characters, for an average of 12.7 words and 69 characters per block.

The game contains 7 menus, 16 images, and 13 screens.

Now that the break’s started, can’t wait to replay the Mass Effect trilogy again. Whoo!

You might not find this as exciting, but I am just amazed at how I drew Rhea’s (centre) and Wesley’s (left) hands. I actually put my own hands in that position and stared for an excessively long time. Wow, that’s kind of embarrassing. I think I need to buy one of those wooden hand artist’s models…

Anyway, I debated for a while on which characters I should put in the main menu. The tried-and-true formula seems to be “stick in all the obtainables”, but I thought about it a little bit and realised that “Twinkle Twinkle”, at its heart, is more of a story about friendship. So BAM. Here we have the three amigos: Wesley, Rhea, and Adrianne.

Lastly, look at what this Logo Noob came up with, whoo! I’m not totally satisfied, but there’s still room for revision… I thought about putting it somewhere on the main menu, but there is literally no place where I could fit it in nicely. Oh well. (The stars are from a brushpack, Star Drops by MissOCD. The font is Romance Fatal Serif by Juan Casco.)

I know, I know. I totally said that I’d be focusing on “Twinkle Twinkle”, but then NaNoReno came along and I just couldn’t help it! Here are character sprites for a project I’m working on with the amazing SilverxBlue.

She’s in the middle of creating a progress thread on LSF, so I won’t reveal too much about the story – just that it’s a romantic comedy and these are the three obtainable characters (in different stages of completion)!

Laziest hands I’ve ever drawn.

Some progress shots of Twinkle Twinkle’s GUI! I’m a total noob and I’ve only ever modified the main menu in renpy, so this was a bit daunting. The whole thing was a bit of a headache and I somehow ran into like ten thousand problems. Luckily, Lorelei/Camille’s super-fantastic tutorial here exists (this basically sustained me through the whole process).

My graphic design experience centres on magazine layouts, so take a look at that sexy, sexy typography… And the absolutely atrocious use of shapes (I DON’T KNOW WHAT I’M DOING). The Save/Load screen is the worst offender – I think I’ll revisit it someday when I’m feeling less like I’m TOTALLY DONE WITH THIS. I’m definitely going to adjust the save slot text.

I wanted to go minimalist, so the prefs screen is very basic and there’s not a lot of extra frills. Despite this, the colour scheme is kind of haphazard, but I hope it works. You might be wondering, “But how does this even relate to your VN’s theme?” Good question. The background is a filtered photo of the Milky Way (you know, like stars, Twinkle Twinkle?) and, uh, let’s just leave it at that.

:D

So, I redid the lineart and the visuals look a lot more polished! GUI is still pretty nonexistent, heh.

Just a quick summary write-up of the game:

Rhea (red background) is used to being roped into her ambitious childhood friend Wesley’s (violet) wishy-washy plots. His latest is no exception. He’s created an astrology club – which, for some reason, people seem to think is a matchmaking service or something. Okay, that’s all well and good. That she can deal with. What she can’t deal with, though, is the fact that the guy she’s been crushing on for ages, Gilbert (turquoise), wants them to set him up with shy Cassidy (blue-violet)! Rhea’s best friend (green) Adrianne tells her this is her chance – do some scheming here and there, and Gilbert will be hers for the taking. On the other hand, straightlaced Wesley, as always, is just concerned with doing the job they’ve been asked to do… What’s a girl to do?

Maybe I should’ve been smarter with my background colour choices, lol. Anyway, it’s definitely not a serious game. Heh. Pretty much, I just want to make something light, fun, and delightfully cliched.

Sadly, my Reading Week free time has cruelly and suddenly been ripped away from me (in the best possible way)! Among other things, I got called for a group interview for a summer job I’d applied to. It’s on Wednesday and, before then, I’ve got to brush up on French and attempt to +1000 Charisma. Ahh.

Either way, I’m still hoping to get the game out for the end of February… Fingers crossed.

Okay, I’ve been thinking this for a while now, but it’s official. I’m going to be putting “Yesterday Again” on the back burner. For a first project, it’s just too expansive. I think I just went way too crazy with it and kept building on it until it became something I can’t quite control. (Yet!)

Anyway, this is what I’ve been working on for the past few days. I thought I’d go back to my roots and make a good ol’ fashioned, straightforward, slice-of-life otome VN in a school setting. This is actually a revisit of an idea that’s been floating around in my head for ages. Tentative title is “Twinkle Twinkle”.

Setting a challenge and goal for myself: to get this done by the end of February 2014. (All my midterms are right before Reading Week. Tragedy of all tragedies, but I guess that leaves a week free to go crazy with this VN!)

More details to follow, hopefully tomorrow.

Ja!

B-Basically my OTP. I’ve been doing a lot of Kill la Kill doodles in class lately…
